Taekwon-Do Squad Clean Up at UK Open Championships
members of Stillorgan Taekwon-Do School and their Instructor, Floyd Keane
returned from the UK Open Championships in Cardiff with a fine haul of 6
trophies. The Championships
attracted over 300 competitors from all over England, Scotland and Wales.
Thirty Irish competitors from Stillorgan, St. Marks, Naas, AIB and Galway
Taekwon-Do schools travelled to Cardiff for the event and brought back a grand
total of 24 trophies.
The Stillorgan colour belts, Rowan Brennan, Stephen O’Donnell, Jonathon Lyons and David Lanigan, and their instructor, Floyd Keane, won three gold, one silver and two bronze awards between them. "They performed brilliantly over there and it was great to see them moving up a gear after their recent wins at the tournament in Tramore" says Keane. Special mention should go to Keane, 4th Degree Black Belt, who swept the boards in the Black Belt competition, winning gold in sparring and destruction and bronze in patterns. He took the award for Overall Black Belt Champion and was presented with a statuette of GrandMaster Rhee, the founder of Taekwon-Do in the UK and Ireland, by the man himself. (December 1999)
